MYT Design Studio chooses Malmstolen for its own studio

When we step inside MYT Design Studio in Kalmar, we are met with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The studio is personal, carefully considered and filled with materials, colour samples and details that say a great deal about how the team works. There is a clear sense of both wholeness and precision.

During the visit, we have lunch together from a nearby café — one of the first chains for which MYT once created the concept and interior design. It becomes a natural reminder of how their work continues to live on in environments that people meet, use and return to every day.

MYT Design Studio consists of John Sävesjö, Alexandra Becker and Johan Vilestål. Together, they create award-winning interiors for hotels, restaurants, cafés, workplaces and other public environments, with projects across Sweden and the Nordics. Their work is built on a clear process: understand, refine and communicate.

A great deal of effort is put into the beginning of each project. Understanding the client, the place and the story behind the assignment. From there, the ideas are refined into a concept that can be communicated through materials, colour, form and products. The result is environments where every part has a purpose.

For MYT, design is about making function and expression work together. The function should be there and make a difference, but without taking over the room. They describe their own work as a puzzle, where the client often comes in with some of the first pieces – needs, visions and conditions. From there, MYT takes over, adds more pieces and makes sure each one finds its place so that the whole feels natural.

The same way of thinking is visible in their own studio. The rooms are relatively compact, which means every piece of furniture needs to work both visually and practically. That is why Malmstolen R3 Mesh was chosen for the studio’s three workstations.

The chair feels light and refined in its expression and blends into the environment without feeling like a traditional office chair. At the same time, it provides the support and comfort needed during long workdays filled with ideas, drawings, client dialogues and decisions.

“The seat is really comfortable. The DUX seat makes an incredible difference to the comfort,” the team explains.

For MYT, R3 Mesh is an example of a product that raises the overall level of the work environment. It does not draw too much attention, but it is noticed in use. Just as in their own projects, it is about choosing the right puzzle piece — a solution that supports the function, the form and the feeling of the room.

Thank you, MYT Design Studio, for welcoming us to your studio in Kalmar and sharing your thoughts on design, process and work environment.
