During the visit, we have lunch together from a nearby café — one of the first chains for which MYT once created the concept and interior design. It becomes a natural reminder of how their work continues to live on in environments that people meet, use and return to every day.
MYT Design Studio consists of John Sävesjö, Alexandra Becker and Johan Vilestål. Together, they create award-winning interiors for hotels, restaurants, cafés, workplaces and other public environments, with projects across Sweden and the Nordics. Their work is built on a clear process: understand, refine and communicate.
A great deal of effort is put into the beginning of each project. Understanding the client, the place and the story behind the assignment. From there, the ideas are refined into a concept that can be communicated through materials, colour, form and products. The result is environments where every part has a purpose.
For MYT, design is about making function and expression work together. The function should be there and make a difference, but without taking over the room. They describe their own work as a puzzle, where the client often comes in with some of the first pieces – needs, visions and conditions. From there, MYT takes over, adds more pieces and makes sure each one finds its place so that the whole feels natural.
